Northland Mountain Climber Safe at Base

Lonnie Dupre has made it safely back to his base camp at the summit of Mt. McKinley in Alaska.
Dupre had been attempting for the third time to summit Mt. McKinley, also known as Denali, by himself in January. If successful, he would have been the first person to do so.
Dupre made the decision last Sunday to abandon his attempt, after he was faced with a lack of sleep, dwindling food supplies, and extreme weather.
"On what we labeled as 'summit day,' winds were 50, 60, maybe ever 70 miles per hour," Dupre said in a recent interview posted to his website. "So, I probably would have perished should I have tried to go to the summit that day."
Even though this is his third attempt, and says that it's getting tougher the older he gets, he's not ruling out the possibility of trying again.
"Maybe four or five years down the road I'll give it another try. When I'm a little wiser," Dupre said with a laugh.
