Kids in Duluth were getting a lesson on staying safe, before they head out for trick-or-treating on Halloween.

The Halloween party was hosted at the Boys and Girls Club in West Duluth.

There was a haunted house and a bounce house, but besides having fun, the event was about keeping kids safe. Spearheading the effort were some UMD graduate students.

"Our message is really this: we're going to school for safety, and we wanted to make sure that everybody knew that health doesn't just start in the workplace. It's kind of something you can work into all parts of your life, and a really easy place to start is with kids being safe on Halloween," said Ryan Bogart, a health and safety graduate student.

They were handing out reflective stickers to the kids to wear while trick-or-treating. They also gave a presentation on Halloween safety.
