UMD's Medical School has big reason to celebrate. The school is marking 40 years in operation. What's more, they've landed a major donation for the future.
At a reception this afternoon, the college accepted a gift of nearly $1.6 million. Regional Campus Dean Gary Davis said this is the largest donation ever gifted to the medical school.
He said the donor wanted to remain anonymous, but the gift is unrestricted, meaning it can be used in anyway the school sees fit.
Davis said the impact will be huge. Friday also marks the school's 40th anniversary. Some students and staff from the first classes were even in attendance.
Davis says the two-year medical program has about 120 student registered.
