Duluth police officers have arrested two teenagers suspected in the weekend assault of a cab driver.
The assault happened at 1st Avenue East and 8th Street just after 4 a.m. Sunday. The cab driver said he had picked up two males in West Duluth and was dropping them off when one suspect pulled out a handgun and demanded money. Then, the other started to choke him.
The victim was able to break free and ran, but says one of the males ran after him, fired a shot, caught up to him, and took cash. The assailants then fled east on 8th Street.
A 17-year-old male suspect was arrested on Wednesday morning near Denfeld High School in West Duluth and an 18-year-old man was arrested on Thursday in the 100 block of West 1st Street. Both suspects face possible charges of first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree assault.
The cab driver was treated for a minor injury at a Duluth hospital.
