Two new, 30 pound helmets are going to make things better for the Superior Dive Team.

The team, which is a joint group from Superior Fire, Superior Police, and the Douglas Co. Sheriff's office, spent time practicing with the helmets for the first time on Monday.

Sgt. Tom Champaigne said that grants paid for the equipment.

"This will make it safer for us when we're doing some of our duties, like diving under the ice to do inspections of vessels and the piers. There's also great communication with the equipment, we can talk to eachother and with the crew up-top. And we can provide basically a limitless supply of air through the helmets," Champaigne explained.

The team has been using face masks, which are pretty standard.
