First Miners' Expo at MDC

The Minnesota Discovery Center pays tribute to our mining past. But for Thursday and Friday, it has been transformed into a place for the latest in mining technology. It's the first Miners' Expo, and is already a big hit.
Over 75 vendors set up their wares, both inside and out, and really displayed how the industry has changed.
Mine workers told us they want to know as much as they can.
Bud Mickelson, from United Taconite, said "I think its nice. Vendors have parts and pieces here you can see them first hand, and in cleaner environment too."
Joe Shea from Hibbing Taconite added, "I'm going to talk to my managers and foremen and the people who make purchases for us, and tell them what I liked and what I saw that could help us out."
But the event is also helpful to exhibitors too.
Kit Grier of Rigid Tool, said "We support mining industry. The new products that we have, we feel have a place in mining."
And the industry can help the companies develop new tools for the future.
Fellow vendor Chuck Watson of DeWalt said, "The expo allows us to interchange with people who use our tools, and hear feedback, which we can use to develop a new tool."
Miners said it was nice to have it so close home.
It's a free event for mining employees, that runs through Friday, from 8am-2pm.
