Senator Al Franken was in the Northland on Saturday afternoon to assess flood damage and meet with local leaders. Franken visited the Fond du Lac neighborhood of Duluth, as well as Barnum, Moose Lake, and Willow River. He praised the volunteers, MnDOT, and the Public Works Departments of each community.
Although no funding is guaranteed at this time, the Minnesota Legislature will convene for a special session sometime in August. The flooding in Owatonna two years ago will serve as a model for this session, with the state matching 25% of federal relief funds.
Officials stress that if you have started repairs, that they are documented thoroughly and that you also attend one of the four Disaster Recovery Centers to report damage. The locations and times of those Centers have not been released yet.
