Talks Resume Over Pine Medical Center

Essentia Health is resuming talks with the hospital district in Pine County about the future of Pine Medical Center in Sandstone.
Essentia Health currently holds a lease to operate the medical center, but new discussion about that agreement began last July. Sandstone residents were concerned about the center's growth and asked Essentia about making improvements. But after not hearing from administrators, the district decided to terminate Essentia's lease in November. In response, Essentia moved forward with plans to purchase the center. Since then, there's been a change in leadership at Essentia, which has given both sides an opportunity to come back to the table.
Essentia officials have offered the district a new proposal, where they wouldn't purchase the medical center, but instead continue their lease for another 3 years. Essentia would also develop a plan to improve the facility and the availability of services to patients.
The hospital district is currently considering the proposal.
