There's new life for some old railroad tracks near Grand Rapids.

Magnetation has leased 15,000 feet of track from Burlington Northern Santa Fe. The tracks haven't been used for years.

The company is building a loading zone at the old Jessie Mine site.

It's there that 120 car trains will be filled with concentrate, and brought to their large steelmaking customer in Mexico.

"We're really pleased with how it's coming along. It's our outlet to the world," said CEO Larry Lehtinen.

Magnetation  has been  making concentrate out of old iron ore tailings since 2009 at their current plant site in Keewatin.

They are also building a second plant in Taconite.

Lehtinen expects the first trains to leave, by the end of October. They'll be filled with concentrate from the first plant. When the second plant is done in June of 2012, then that concentrate will also head out.
