Tom Belanger Director of Music Indus School, near Int'l Falls Teaching for 14 years
WHY HE WAS NOMINATED: Mr. Belanger is a talented musician and a "very special teacher." He directs the Summer Band program and when the students were doing so well, he extended the program another 2 weeks on his own time. Mr. Belanger incorporates other subjects like history, math and geography into his music program. He teaches his kids that music "is not just an extra," but can be "entwined with every subject." He makes learning about music fun. He encourages students who find music and instruments easy to learn, to help other students who may need extra support and encouragement. Mr. Belanger's class is "much more than just a music class."

Mr. Belanger is interested in local history and family research. His great-great grandparents helped build the first Indus School in 1904. He has three children... Elizabeth, 13... Nathan, 10... and Margeaux, 7. |
