Charlene Malin
Charlene took her first trip to Duluth a few years ago and was hooked by the beautiful city. Little did she know that one day she would be trying to forecast some of the most challenging weather in the world! Charlene joined the WDIO weather team in the fall of 2008.
That first trip to the Northland fanned her enthusiasm for the area and she is delighted to return. "Weather is the most interesting thing in the world. It's a story that never ends and is filled with unexpected twists and turns!"
Charlene has always been fascinated with weather and the outdoors. As a kid, when the radio told everyone to head to the basement because of severe weather, she headed outside to watch the action. In the middle of a blizzard you could find her outside looking at the different snow flakes, however it wasn't until college that she realized just how passionate she was about the weather. In a natural disasters course focusing on tornados and flooding, she knew she was on the right career path when she became intrigued by atmospheric circulations that fueled these events! Thus the seed was planted.
She then headed to St. Cloud State University where she graduated in May of 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Meteorology. She is also a member of the National Weather Association. In college, she was an active member at college station UTVS as a weather anchor and reporter. Her reporting won several awards, and she was promoted to Chief Meteorologist in her last year there.
Charlene is excited to be in the Northland, where it's a meteorologist's dream-come-true for weather events; from tornados to blizzards and everything in between. She is excited to be in the middle of it all and thrilled to be part of such a rich community.
Besides weather, Charlene is also a fan of volleyball, live music, and outdoor activities. Her favorite thing to do on a sunny day is take a hike anywhere that has beautiful scenery.
