It was part of the school's Spring Community Day. Some students traveled to St. Paul to lobby legislators while others prepared and delivered meals to those in need.

Another group spent the day helping teachers get organized and make classroom decorations at Duluth's St. John's School. Kalina Groothuis, a St. Scholastica student, said she was happy to lend a hand.

"I love children so just being here at the elementary school has been great for me," Groothuis said. "My mom's a teacher so helping teachers out, doing things and just taking the day off to be with friends and help out is really great."

Other students read books to kids at Superior's Great Lakes Elementary School for their Knowledge-a-Thon as well as at St. James School.
