In a church half a world away, Ann Fure was doing her part to help Liberian communities in crisis.
"People are afraid to go to the hospital and afraid to go to the tents because they're afraid they are going to die," Ann Fure said.
She's talking about the deadly Ebola virus that's killed 1,350 people in West Africa. Ann and her husband Rolf have visited Liberia several times with a group on a medical mission, but they can't go this year.
They had a trip planned for February to provide eye and dental care.
"If you have a toothache, there is absolutely no chance you will see a dentist," Ann Fure said. "A lot of people will use battery acid. They're so desperate to get the infection out of their mouth."
Instead of their normal visit, the couple will send supplies and money to help fight the Ebola outbreak this year.
"As Christians, you're praying for a miracle to happen, for this virus to stop spreading," Rolf Fure said. "They walk barefoot. There's blood on the path; there's spit on the path. They get cuts on their feet and they get infected without even knowing it."
The couple raised money for supplies by selling fireworks in July in the Cub Foods parking lot. They're sending things like hand sanitizer, masks and trash bags.
Ann is sending the first shipment on Friday. It takes two months to get to Liberia.
