The ALS ice bucket challenge is quite literally soaking the nation. Donations are pouring in now more than ever. What started in Massachusetts has now exploded nationwide.

Former President George Bush, Wisc. Govenor Scott Walker, professional athletes, singers, actors and national reporters have all accepted the challenge.

WDIO Reporter Julie Kruse thought it was her turn.

She nominated Maarja Anderson, Ben Dery, and Steve Goodspeed.

The ice bucket challenge has become a social media phenomenon, but 10-year ALS volunteer, Justin May, said it's this more than just an internet fad. The ALS Association raised $1.9 million dollars last year, while this year, they've already raised nearly $32 million dollars.

However, the Northland has been involved with the cause for over a decade with the ALS Blizzard Tour and ALS Walleye Tournament.

"It's still neat that the rest of the country has jumped in," said May.

You can donate to ALS through their website.
