A group working to reduce poverty here in the Northland is celebrating 50 years.

Community Action can be found in every Minnesota county. Agencies across the state are celebrating by having people ride 50 miles from Willow River to Duluth for the 50 years of their service. They will arrive in Duluth Tuesday for a conference at the DECC.

The 75 bikers are expected to raise $100 each for Community Action.

Community Action Duluth director Angie Miller said poverty has come a long ways in 50 years since the War on Poverty legislation was signed , but there is still work to do.

"Our urban areas have high poverty rates and there are high poverty rates among children and really, any poverty is unacceptable," said Angie.

The conference at the DECC runs through Friday.
