It's only in its second year in it's new location but it's 28th year of existance. The Brewhouse Triathlon draws in athletes up for the challenge from all over the midwest and parts canada. It's new location is about 20 minutes north of Duluth on Rice Lake Road at Island Lake Park which when it was built they had this event in mind during the process.

Matt Evans, Race Director of Logistics says, "this race is really unique because, for one thing it's been around for so long and it's also beautiful here. Minnesota Power has this beach here, they made the swim exits for us, they tarred their parking lot, so that we could bring a really high quality event here to the northland, and share that with everyone who participates."

As for the event, the tri-athletes took to the water around 8:30am. First was the short course which consisted of an 820-yard swim then bike 12.4 miles and run 3.1 to the finish line. This year Mike Ward won the short for the second straight year and Suzie Fox was the first women to cross the finish line at one hour six minutes and 12-seconds.

Suzie Fox said, "yeah, I mean there is a lot that goes into the training. It seems over whelming, but it's actually a lot of fun. There is different abilities at every race, some things you just show up and do."

"I like the venue a lot. It's local. I'm from Duluth, just to come out, sleep in my own bed and also the other competitors are local tri-athletes as well. I know everybody, it's a fun home town feel." Matt Ward said after winning the short course with a time of one hour, two minutes and 24-seconds.

In the long course. which got started around 9:45 this morning. The tri-athletes swim 16-hundred and 40 yards, then bike 24.8 miles and finish it off with a 10k run of 6.2 miles. For the 12th time Brian Bich won the Brewhouse. This time a course record of 1-hour 59 minutes and 19 seconds. and on the women's side Elaine Nelson wasn't far behind at two-hours -12 minutes and five seconds.

"I guess to win a triathlon twelve times, you have to be kind of consistent, patience. Not over do it any one particular year. Be steady in your training and keep a balance in your life so you don't get burned out probably be the biggest thing." Bich Said.

Elaine Nelson added " You can't ask for a better, the bike course was great, the run course was wonderful. The finish into the woods was really nice. It was a great triathlon overall."
