Superior is preparing for one big celebration this weekend. It's the grand reopening of North Tower Avenue.
The final touches of the major reconstruction project are complete and now they're ready to celebrate this Friday and Saturday.
The avenue officially opened last October after a year of construction, but they've been finishing up the landscaping this summer.
Dave Minor with the Superior-Douglas County Area Chamber of Commerce said new businesses are already popping up.
"We've got a new doughnut shop that opened last week and we have a new women's boutique store that will be opening within the next week. Really what we were hoping for Tower Avenue is happening, it's spurring a lot of people to have discussion," he said.
Minor said this weekend is a time for folks to come down and celebrate all of the hard work that went into this project.
Flowers and trees have been planted this summer, and a touch of color was recently added. Colorful clay plates with some of Superior's historical landmarks were made by a local artist.
The celebration begins Friday at 5 p.m. and goes until bar close. Tower Avenue taverns will offer music and drink specials. Saturday is a family fun day from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. with food carts, games, a car show, and sidewalk sales.
