This Saturday is your chance to take part in a unique 5K that asks runner to let their adventurous side run free.
The Victory Challenge is one fun and challenging 5K outdoor adventure race. It's happening this Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Mont Du Lac ski resort in beautiful Superior, Wisconsin.
Race coordinator Matt O'Hara says the race is for all skill levels and the scenic area of Mont Du Lac offers a great space for lots of obstacles.
"This is a big playground, we want everybody to come out. Whether you're a fitness enthusiast or just someone who enjoys running 5Ks or works out on occasion," O'Hara said.
O'Hara says there have been similar races in the area, but nothing quite like this. This race aims to get your body moving with unique obstacles, but without the mud.
"The thing about a 5K obstacle course, is that it's not just a final run. You're not just running and running and running," O'Hara said. "There's always something in here to kind of change your mind get your mind off of what your legs are feeling."
The race consists of running or jogging 5K of challenging terrain covered with a boatload of obstacles to conquer and maneuver over, under, around or through.
"We aren't your normal adventure race. We're here and the staff is here committed to putting on an excellent race and it's one that is sure to come back year after year," O'Hara said.
The race course offers anything from a large cargo net to a tire running field. It also gives runner a beautiful view surrounding Lake Superior and the Saint Louis River basin.
"We're going to take them out on the bluffs on the other side where they can see the Saint Louis River basin and just get some extraordinary views that they might not normally see," O'Hara said.
The race also benefits two organizations dedicated to serving the community and country - Law Enforcement United and Marine Corps Veterans Association.
The Victory Challenge 5K is this Saturday, July 19. For more information on early and same day registration head to their website and check out their Facebook page.
