It is now easier to get information on Duluth School Board members after the group unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday night.
Board members were considered employees under the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act, but the resolution will change that classification to elected officials.
Member Harry Welty hoped the change will allow for more transparency in regard to the board's investigation into member Art Johnston.
“I am counting on this resolution, and I'm counting on this investigation to eventually be publicized so that we can be certain what the allegations have been because at this point the individual being investigated is having to live with a dark cloud,” Welty said.
The investigation is ongoing, and the list of allegations against Johnston include:
Alleged abuse of authority as a school board member as it relates to staff member/members.
Alleged conflict of interest in relation to a staff member. Alleged violation of the Code of Ethics, Board Policy 8050.
Alleged assault of or otherwise improper conduct toward the Superintendent of Schools.
Alleged assault of or otherwise improper conduct towards the School Board Chairman.
Alleged racist or otherwise improper comment about a staff member.
