Crash Involving Semi in Cotton

The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating a crash involving a semi in Cotton.

The crash happened on southbound Highway 53 and Arkola Road on Monday. The Eyewitness News crew on the scene at about 7:30 p.m. said responding agencies included the Minnesota State Patrol, St. Louis County deputies and Cotton Fire and Rescue.

Police say the driver of the car, Robert Abts, was transported to St. Mary's by helicopter, while his passengers, Airlea DeFoe and Tiffany Skinaway, were brought to St. Lukes. The semi truck driver, Clancy McGuire, had no apparent injuries.

    Steel Dynamics, the parent company of Mesabi Nugget and Mining Resources, announced Tuesday that the two Iron Range facilities will remain idled indefinitely, affecting about 200 workers.  A small group of workers will be retained to maintain the facilities.
