Seamen who once served on the U.S.S. Duluth, had a reunion here in the city by the lake last summer. And that's when the idea to save the anchor and bring it up here, was born.

Companies and people have donated their time, materials, and efforts to bring the anchor from Texas to Duluth.

Dave Hubert, who was one of the ship's former storekeepers, was on hand when the anchor was on display at the Thompson Hill Rest Area on Monday.

It was headed to Fraser Shipyards to be sandblasted and painted, before it's dedicated on the Lakewalk.

"We hope to have a ceremony on August 22nd, but it's tentative at this point. It's nice seeing it back here. I served two years on the U.S.S. Duluth," Hubert explained.

The group still needs some items before they can finish the display, like rebar.
