More than two weeks after the official start to summer, the last remnants of winter's snow in Superior have finally melted.

Judges in the Superior-Douglas County Chamber of Commerce's "Snowpocalypse" contest declared the last snow in the city's snow dump to have melted on Monday.  Plows dump snow from around the city at the site on Mortorelli Drive near UW-Superior.

Gerry Olson of Superior had guessed the snow would melt on July 7 and will receive a basket of prizes including gift certificates to local businesses, passes to Superior Public Museums, and a one-month family swim pass for Barker's Island Inn.

Leslie Filteau of Sheboygan, Wis. was the winner in the "out-of-towner" category and won a three-night stay at Barker's Island Inn, as well as museum passes and gift certificates.

The chamber launched the contest in May to celebrate the end of the long, harsh winter.
