It wasn't just any Fourth of July celebration in Moose Lake Friday. The town was remembering two special anniversaries as well.
Moose Lake Area Chamber of Commerce President Amy Perrine said the town's 125th anniversary paired with the high school turning 100 years old have been reasons for festivities over the Fourth of July weekend--two milestones that mark an important time for the town.
"Moose Lake has been through so much over the years," Perrine said. "We have actually been really good at rallying together and supporting each other as a community."
The Forest Fire of 1918 and the June 2012 flood, both swept the region and had a dramatic affect on Moose Lake.
Perrine said the nearly 3500 people who came out to watch the parade and the 2000 people who are in town for the all-class Moose Lake High School reunion are a good example of just how strong the community is.
"People are coming from all over the country to be here to celebrate growing up here in Moose Lake, and we decided that we have a lot of heritage to celebrate," Perrine said.
Steve Winchester grew up in Moose Lake and agreed that the town is really coming together to celebrate this special milestone.
"It's really neat because it brings back old classmates and people you don't see for years or may not have seen since graduation," Winchester said.
The all-class reunion is being held at the Riverside Arena in Moose Lake from July 3-6. Starting at 6 p.m. Friday, Uncle Lucky will start as the opening act for Whiskey River's concert at the arena.
