Highway 53 is not the only roadway on the Iron Range being moved to make way for mining; St. Louis County is moving Highway 102 so Minntac can expand their pits.

Starting Monday, the entrance to downtown Mt. Iron from the Highway 169 interchange is going to be closed so crews can work on the intersection. The closure will last about 3 weeks.

To access downtown come in by L & M Fleet Supply on County Road 109 instead.

County officials have said they would like the road finished by the end of the year.
