Web App Provides Fish Data from Michigan Streams

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - The Michigan Department of Natural Resources has developed a Web application that will provide information about fish population trends in more than 40 streams.

The application pulls together data collected from a network of fish survey sites, some reaching back to 1947.

Research biologist Troy Zorn says it focuses on streams with long-term data and naturally reproducing populations of trout, salmon or smallmouth bass.

Anglers, fisheries professionals and others will be able to check particular rivers for trends in fish abundance, growth and yearly survival rates.

Information can be viewed in map, graph or table formats. About half of the sites are sampled each year. New data will be added to the application before spring.
