It's garage sale season, but you haven't seen anything until you've been to the Million Dollar Garage Sale in Cook.
The old Cook school is overflowing with everything from power tools, to furniture, to knick-knacks and antiques. The sale used to be in the gym, and now has sprawled to other rooms.
"People plan their vacations around this. They come from everywhere, and line up for hours before the doors open," explained Norene Butalla, co-chair of the event.
They start collecting items for a full year. Lions Club members help organize and sort them and put prices on them. "It keeps us energized," Butalla laughed.
Money raised from the sale helps Lions Club programs throughout the community. "We also do six scholarships each year," Butalla said.
In its 15th year, the sale has raised over $300,000 for different programs that help everyone from the young to the elderly.
You won't find clothes or books at the sale.
But down the hall at the school, is the annual book sale held by the Friends of the Library. They hold the sale at the same time as the garage sale.
"We use the money to help pay for the part time library assistant, buy shelves, computers and printers, and to fund community programs," explained JoAnn Anderson, a library board member.
Thousands of books are ready for eager readers. There are no prices on them. Instead, folks donate money for the books. Some are from the Arrowhead Library system. Others are donated.
The Million Dollar Garage Sale is coming up on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, June 20-22nd.
The prices are reduced each day of the sale, but there is no haggling.
