A canoeist who became stranded near the Minnesota-Ontario border has been rescued.

Ontario Provincial Police say a Minnesota tourist outfitter contacted them Monday afternoon to report that a camp patron was stranded on Kawnipi Lake in Quetico Park.  The canoeist used an emergency messaging system to contact the outfitter for help.

The OPP says officers made efforts to respond Monday but were delayed due to poor weather.  Quetico Provincial Park employees found the canoeist safe and sound.

The man's canoe had drifted from shore.

This story has been updated after the OPP said the man was rescued by Quetico staff, not OPP officers.

The canoeist's name and hometown were not immediately available.
