As veterans and their guardians gear up for another Honor Flight Northland, one Hermantown boy scout has found a creative way to show his support.

Parker Deters is part of Boy Scout Troop 106, and he is working to earn his Citizenship in the Community badge. He was at the pre-flight training on Saturday with the bracelets he's selling to raise money for Honor Flight Northland.

Deters makes the bracelets out of parachute cord, and there's a lot more to them than meets the eye.

"Depending on how big it is, that's how many feet of rope there is to it," he says. "And they're a survival bracelet, so if you're out camping and you need rope, you can take it apart."

Deters says he's made about 168 of these bracelets. He's raised about $400 so far, and he's thinking about turning this into his Eagle Scout project, as well.

The next Honor Flight Northland is on June 7, 2014. They accept donations on their website, and Deters plans to continue selling his bracelet at local VFWs and the Richard I. Bong Historical Center in Superior.
