For those who love pancakes and sausage the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center (DECC) was the place to be Thursday.  The 57th Annual Duluth Lions Club Pancake Day brought out young and old alike for a taste of those fluffy flapjacks and some good community fun.

The hotcakes were flying before the door opened at six a.m.  WDIO's Good Morning Northland crew was live at the DECC again this year to help kick off the event.  It's a great chance for the community to get their pancake fill hot off the griddle.

"We have almost one person out of 10 in Duluth come to eat at Pancake Day and I just think that's amazing," Pancake Day Director Eric Schlacks said.

There are pancakes galore and scrumptious sausages, plus your choice of blueberry or strawberry toppings.  "They've got great toppings here - some folks like strawberry, others are all about the blueberry.  But I like to keep it traditional.  A little bit of butter and some maple syrup," Brittany Falkers said.  "So good!"

Pancake Day has seen a lot of changes over the years, but the sense of community remains.  In fact, it is a tradition for many Duluth families.  "It's become a community event and I've had people tell me they come from generations.  Their parents took them when they were children and now their brining their children," Schlacks said.

Maren Esterholm remembers Pancake Day when she was just a child.  Now, she still comes with her father, but brings her little one along with too.  "We come every year," she said.

Dan Morin comes with his coworkers.  He says the food is great, but the fact that it helps out local charities is a big plus.  "We've been coming here for 20 years," Dan Morin said.  "Just support the local community."

Schlacks says Pancake Day is the Duluth Lions Club's biggest fundraiser of the year.  The money goes right back to the community supporting those with hearing, vision and diabetes needs.

"Our goal this year is to raise $83,000 dollars," Schlacks said.  "Last year we raised just over $80,000 and $50,000 of that is returned to the community.  The rest of that covers expenses to put on Pancake Day."

Anne Pollard stopped by to get her pancake fix.  She says there's no excuse not to come down and help out the Duluth Lions Club.  "If you don't like pancakes you've got to be crazy right?  I'm going to come back here for dinner," she said.

It's a delectable way to make a difference year after year.  Pancake Day at the DECC runs until 8 p.m. Thursday night.
