DNR Rolls Out 'Fish Minnesota' Mobile Resource

Just in time for the fishing opener this weekend, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources rolled out “Fish Minnesota,” a mobile application with information on things like fishing regulations, fishing piers and boat landings.

The DNR said Fish Minnesota was part of Gov. Mark Dayton’s "unsession " initiative and  Plain Language Executive Order  that directed state agencies to make information easier to access and easier to understand.

Al Stevens, who coordinates DNR fishing regulations said the increase in special fishing regulations over the past 20 years along with the number of lakes and rivers infested with aquatic invasive species were making the fishing regulation book too big and difficult to manage.

While the DNR’s efforts focused on revamping the open water regulations, Fish Minnesota will soon include ice fishing and fish spearing regulations.

New online fishing regulations are grouped by category and are searchable by each specific lake. Anglers can buy fishing licenses and can also look up fishing terminology, locations of fishing piers, boat landings family-friendly fishing spots and metro-area bait shops.

The DNR is seeking feedback on the site. Comments can be directed to webmaster.dnr@state.mn.us.
