No matter what high school students are interested in, the Grand Rapids business community wants them to be prepared to join the workforce.

"I've always had a love for cars," student Olivia Brandt said. "I want to be an auto technician."

Brandt was in a group of students who toured Rapids Process Equipment in Cohasset.

"These students are our future," RPE Operations Manager Barb Linder said. "We want the upcoming employees to know what we're looking for."

About 550 high school students from all over Itasca County toured different businesses. The Future Workers Event is in its sixth year and this year tenth graders participated.

At Fastenal, students were motivated by the District Manager.

"Go above and beyond and I guarantee it will not go unnoticed," Jared Hebeisen said.

Over at JDI Contracts Inc., students learned all the basics. President Roger Hoyum said work ethic is very important. He also said keeping kids in the area is key.

"This is one of the biggest issues that my business faces in terms of trying to attract top-notch, top-tier help," Hoyum said.
