Carlton, Minn. - Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs made two entrances on Saturday night in Carlton, Minnesota and both were longer than his fight.

The former WBO World Heavyweight Champion (53-6-1, 47 KOs) needed just 27 seconds to defeat Francisco Mireles (17-9-0, 5 KOs) of Mexico by first-round KO with a body shot. The fight was a late addition to the "Championship Boxing" card, as Jungle Boy Promotions announced last Wednesday that Briggs would be competing. There was disappointment over the short fight as some fans booed. "For Shannon's fight, I wish I could have seen more, but that guy (Briggs) is going to destroy anybody you put in front of him," said promoter Zach Walters. Briggs joked to our camera afterwards, saying "He hit me so hard, I don't even know what happened."

It was Briggs' second victory in eight days, as he defeated Maurenzo Smith on April 11th in Tampa, Florida by first-round KO.

During Briggs' pre-fight entrance, the six-foot-four inch, 250-pound boxer leaned against the ropes and bounced off. There was a loud noise and then, the ropes started to sag. (17 seconds into the video clip, you can hear the noise.) Before it had even started, the bout was delayed as both boxers left the ring and Briggs returned to the dressing room. A person who helped repair the ring told Eyewitness Sports that a cable underneath of it had come loose. After the ring was fixed, Briggs made another entrance and the bout started.
