Two men who pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder during a Duluth robbery in December have been sentenced to more than a decade in prison.
Thirty-year-old Brandon Tyson, of Duluth, and Robert Neft, 32, of Saginaw had both pleaded guilty to second-degree attempted murder. On Monday, a judge sentenced each to 12 1/2 years in prison.
According to business owner Colin Mackin, the men walked into the ILF Smartphone Clinic on London Road on Dec. 23 and told him to get on the ground. Mackin told Eyewitness News that after a struggle, he followed them outside where one of the men shot him in the chest.
Mackin said he forgives the men, and has moved on. "The thing about being bitter and holding grudges is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. It just doesn't really accomplish anything.”
According to a the criminal complaint, Neft told police Tyson was the one to pull the trigger.
"My intention was never to have anyone get hurt," Neft said at Monday's hearing. "I'm deeply sorry for this and I hope he can find it to forgive me at some point in time."
Tyson said, "I apologize for the situation. I never meant for it to go this way."
The men will each get 112 days credit for time already served.
