Emily Vikre, co-founder of Vikre Distillery, joined us on Wednesday, April 9th, for International Gin & Tonic Day!

Vikre Distillery is based in the Paulucci Building in Canal Park. They specialize in distilling gin, but plan to begin barreling whiskey in the Fall of 2014.

Emily Vikre, along with her husband, Joel Vikre, own the business. Emily was kind enough to join us.

She told us all about the gin and how it's made. "The defining thing about gin is that it has to have juniper berries in it," Emily said.

The Juniper Gin that Vikre Distillery makes is their most traditional one, while the Spruce Gin is more herbal with lavender and rosemary in it. And they recommend their Ceder Gin for wine lovers and whiskey drinkers! "It has some black currant in their, some grapefruit peel, and it's finished with toasted ceder wood," Emily said.

Vikre gin's are available in both the Northland and the Twin Cities, and they are ever expanding. If you'd like to learn more about the Vikre Distillery, head to their website at vikredistillery.com.
