Our cold winter is having an effect on many things, including donations at Goodwill.

Workers said they've seen a big decline in donations this winter. While they always expect donations to slow down in the winter months, this year has been worse.

When supply is down, it also has an impact on workers.

"It's really important we always have a lot of donations because we use them to create jobs for people who have disabilities and other barriers to employment," Public Relations Specialist Valerie Clark said. "They are the ones getting ready for donations to be sold in our stores."

They've seen a decline overall this winter, but on sunny days they do see an uptick. Goodwill is looking for many things including clothes, furniture and household items.

Stores hit the hardest are in the outlying areas of the Northland. For example, stores in Virginia, Hibbing, Ely and Grand Rapids.
