Grilling out Might Cost You More this Spring

The weekend forecast will likely inspire a lot of us out there to fire up the grill for the first time this season.

But with the propane shortage that plagued so much of the Midwest earlier this year, that got us wondering if this rite of spring will cost you a lit bit more.

The answer is yes and no.

Propane prices have come down significantly in the past two months but are still higher than last year.

According to the Minnesota Department of Commerce, the average price of propane a gallon at this time last year was $1.62 a gallon. Right now it's $2.28 per gallon, but back in January it was more than double that price at $4.67 a gallon.

Mike Bauer, the owner of Bauer's Custom Hitches, where you can get your propane tank filled for about $18.95, says most customers are willing to pay a couple dollars more.

"Between daylight savings time and the weather we are getting this weekend, 30 to 40 people will be out here filling up their tanks tomorrow," he said. 

Temperatures are expected to warm up to the upper 40s on Sunday.
