Virginia City Council Takes Stand Against Co-Located School

On Tuesday the Virginia City Council unanimously voted to oppose the current plan for a co-located school with the Virginia, Eveleth-Gilbert, and Mountain Iron-Buhl school districts.

The vote was purely symbolic and cannot stop the school district from moving forward with the co-located campus, but Councilor Larry Cuffe said it was meant to show the council's position.

Cuffe said the council opposes financing for the plan because it will take IRRRB money away from economic development for the Iron Range.

The plan for the co-located campus calls for it to be built in Mountain Iron, and Cuffe said the council also disagrees with busing Virginia students out of the district limits.

School officials supporting the co-located campus have said bringing the students together will allow for more expansive curriculum and better technology in the classroom.
