Hibbing, Minn. - The basketball court at Lincoln Elementary School in Hibbing is where Bob McDonald earned his 999th and 1,000th wins. Ironically, it is also where he coached his last basketball game as Bigfork defeated Chisholm 49-37 in the Section 7A playoffs.

McDonald, who has coached for 59 years overall and 53 at Chisholm, announced before the season started that this would be his final season coaching.

"It has been a wonderful run, there is no question about that and it would've been nice to go out with something a little bit better than we have done, but our kids played decently enough and we played against a good team and you have to give them (Bigfork) credit for being able to subdue us, but I will always have a fondness in my heart for Chisholm and Chisholm people," said McDonald.

"He is a great guy and has been great to me. When I first started coaching, I would call him a lot. Not just about x-and-o stuff, but discipline stuff with kids and he has always just been there and great to me and been a great friend and he'll be missed in the game of basketball," said Chad Lovdahl, Head Coach of Bigfork.

McDonald finishes with 1,012 wins and 428 defeats. At Chisholm, he lead the Bluestreaks to 11 State Tournament appearances and three State Titles. He also coached at McGregor and Barnum. McDonald is already a member of the Minnesota State High School League Hall of Fame and he will be inducted into the National High School Hall of Fame in July in Boston.
