Wis. Assembly Approves More Worker Training Money

Created: 02/11/2014 6:24 PM WDIO.com

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - The Wisconsin state Assembly has passed Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to spend $35 million on worker training initiatives.

The additional spending passed Tuesday is part of a package of proposals Walker unveiled last month in response to news the state has a nearly $1 billion budget surplus.

The worker training money would go to help technical colleges train people for high-demand jobs as well as do more to help find work for people with developmental disabilities.

Democrats raised concerns that the bill does not spell out exactly how much money will go toward what program. They offered a plan to give technical colleges $100 million for worker training but that was rejected.

The bill passed on a bipartisan 77-22 vote.
