UPDATE: A fund has been set up for the couple at Superior Savings Bank under Roisum Benefit Fund.
Jane Roisum's mobile home in South Range is hardly recognizable.
"It was just like flames coming out of the shell of the house," Roisum said. "It was just surreal."
A smoldering pile on her property used to be where she and her husband Gary called home. Jane lived there for 28 years.
"My heads still spinning so fast," Roisum said. "I'm hoping it's just a real bad nightmare and I'll wake up and life will be back to normal."
What Roisum does have is the safety of her husband and one of their dogs. Roisum said her husband was asleep when the fire broke out and their cocker spaniel Jada started barking and woke Gary up.
"She saved his life and gave hers in the process," Roisum said. Jada was unable to escape the fire along with two cats. Thankfully their dog Allee survived the fire.
While the mourning is far from over, Roisum is thankful for friends.
"It's great to see people who you know are there," Roisum said.
Roisum said she and her husband do not have insurance or money to rebuild. They said any prayers are welcome as they go through this difficult time.
Jane said they're not sure what caused the blaze, but it could be related to their wood furnace.
