For the next couple weeks, some special students will be roaming the halls at Northland schools.

Thirty students from China are visiting Duluth and staying with host families. A welcome potluck was held Sunday at Duluth East High School.

Organizers hope students both from China and Duluth will learn from each other during the coming weeks. Assistant Superintendent Ed Crawford said they already have one thing in common.

"The weather isn't so different from Dalien where they're from," Crawford said. "So, they're used to it. I was told by a family that they went out snowmobiling. That was an experience they haven't had in their own country."

The Dalien students will get a bus tour of Duluth next week. That will include a meeting with Mayor Don Ness.

Most the Chinese students will be at Duluth East, but a few will be at Denfeld and Esko.

Crawford said the students all speak English. Crawford set up the trip after visiting China about a year ago.
