Near Tofte, Minn. - It is a battle between former champions as Chisholm's Nathan Schroeder and Ray's Keith Aili are racing towards another Beargrease title, but only one can win.

Aili had the lead last night, but Schroeder was the first to the Devil Track checkpoint this morning and the Sawbill checkpoint this afternoon around 4:30 pm. Schroeder is a two-time champion, including last year. He still has 10 dogs running, Aili has 11. Schroeder says his dogs are doing well.

"It was beautiful through the woods, I actually felt like it warmed up as the wind was cut back and I will take off at about 8:00 p.m. and head to Two Harbors and that is going to be a cold, long run and it will be eight or nine hours. 4:30 a.m., I will get to Two Harbors and so yeah, it is going to be cold, that gravel pits is cold," says Schroeder.

The Marathon race wraps up on Wednesday.
