Twin Ports MLK March & Rally

Created: 01/20/2014 8:54 AM WDIO.com

Community members are invited to the Twin Ports Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day March & Rally. Jireh Mabamba, a UMD student originally from Congo, joined Brittany on the set Monday morning to talk about the event.

Jireh will be one of three featured speakers at the Rally at the DECC. The Rally will connect the legacies of Dr. King and Nelson Mandela. Jireh was born in Congo, but moved to South Africa with his family when he was young to seek refugee status. South Africa was a safe place due to Mandela's work.

Other speakers at the Rally will include Dr. Roger Gregoire, who is an educator focused on inspiring people to learn how to learn, along with Chang'aa Mweti, a professor of education at UMD originally from Kenya.

People will gather for the March at 10:45 AM at the Washington Center on Lake Avenue and 4th Street, and then head to the DECC.  The Rally will officially begin at 11:45 AM.
