18-Year-Old Killed in Barron Co. Crash

An 18-year-old Birchwood, Wis., woman was killed in a crash Friday afternoon.

Deputies said her truck attempted to pass a Ford Explorer on Eastbound Wisconsin 48 at State Highway 48, a mile south of Mikana near Rice Lake. According to authorities, the truck hit the other vehicle and both went off the road.

The driver of the truck, 18-year-old Kiandra Schaffer of Birchwood, was ejected and then pinned under the truck. Deputies said she did not have a seatbelt on, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The two people in the other vehicle were uninjured. Deputies said the crash happened at 2:15 p.m. The accident is under investigation.
