Family and Friends Search for Missing Virginia Man

On Saturday the family and friends of a missing Virginia man hit the streets to search for him and spread word about his disappearance.

Virginia Police said 41-year-old Andy Kanian was last seen at a local bar on January 2. It was only 10 blocks from his home, but he hasn't been heard from in over a week. With so little to go on his wife is swirling in the unknown.

“I'm staying about as strong as I can be right now. I'm staying pretty strong. Today has been pretty good. I have my good days and I have my bad, but I've been doing better. I have all my support,” Tammy Kanian said.

She said family and friends have helped her stand tall.

“I have his cousin, his sister-in-law, his daughter just walked in. All my friends, and people I don't even know are here,” Kanian said.

The group gathered to stay hopeful and search for Andy, however family members said the disappearance is taking a toll on everyone, especially Tammy.

“I think when the door is closed and there is nobody there I think she is definitely having feelings that nobody can really describe, Christina Lee said. “There's a lot of heartache, and we're just being hopeful and praying that we do find him.”

Lee is Andy's cousin, and she drove hours from Forest Lake to come search for him. Her husband brought an ATV to scour nearby trails while others canvass town with Kanian's photo.

“We will have other people in town with fliers handing out to businesses and contacting anyone that's on the street just to get his name out,” Lee said.

The were searching for any clues, but Tammy kept imagining what she'd do if Andy walked in the door.

“I'd probably hug him to death. I'll be happy. As long as it's a good outcome I'll be happy,” Kanian said.

Nothing new was discovered on Saturday, but Tammy and her family intended to continue the search on Sunday.

Kanian was last seen wearing a blue Under Armor sweatshirt and a Carhartt hat. He also had a black winter jacket with fur around the hood. Anyone that may have seen Kanian should call the Virginia Police at 218-748-7510 or 911.
