Talgo Seeks Nearly $66 Million for Canceled Wis. Deal

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Train-maker Talgo, Inc., is seeking nearly $66 million in damages from Wisconsin it claims are owed after Gov. Scott Walker decided to abandon a high-speed rail line connecting Milwaukee and Madison.

The Seattle-based arm of the Spanish train company filed the claim with the state Claims Board on Thursday. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Justice had no comment.

If the Claims Board were to agree with Talgo, the Republican-controlled Legislature and Walker would also have to sign off. If the claim is rejected, Talgo could take its case to court.

The state signed a deal in 2009 to purchase at least two train sets from Talgo. They also entered into a maintenance agreement.

Walker's administration canceled both deals.
