A girl from Pine City was killed in a crash southwest of the Twin Cities on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, a pickup truck hauling a horse trailer rear-ended a car that was slowing down on U.S. Highway 169 in Belle Plaine.  The pickup truck then lost control and rolled into the ditch, and the trailer landed on top of the truck.

Laura M. Maloney, 8, was a passenger in the truck and was killed in the crash.  The Patrol said she was a relative of the driver, a 62-year-old Brooklyn Park man.  The driver and a 35-year-old woman from Pine City, listed as the daughter of the driver, suffered injuries that are not life-threatening.

All three people in the pickup truck were wearing seatbelts.  The Patrol said alcohol was not detected in either driver.

The condition of the driver of the car, who is from Mankato, was not documented.
