Crandall Lifts UMD in Men's Hockey Opener

Duluth, Minn. - The UMD men's hockey team won their opener, defeating Michigan Tech on Friday night at Amsoil Arena by a score of 2-1. 5,787 fans attended the game.
Tony Cameranesi put the Bulldogs on the board first, scoring at 4:55 in the second period. Chris Leibinger converted a short-handed goal almost halfway into the third period to tie the game at 1. Justin Crandall gave UMD the lead again when he scored with under three minutes to go in the third period. That goal turned out to be the winning goal.
UMD goalie Matt McNeely stopped 15 shots. MTU goalie Phoenix Copley stopped 39 shots. Kyle Osterberg, Austin Farley, Joe Basaraba, Luke McManus each had assists for the Bulldogs.
