There's a positive energy radiating from the Cloquet practice field these days. It could be because the Lumberjacks are 5-1.

"We've got everyone working together, the offense is moving, the defense is stopping like always, and everything is just coming together now," said Treavor Lowther, senior defensive tackle.

Head coach Tom Lenarz says Cloquet is executing better than in the past and spreading the ball around successfully.

"We don't have one kid that the opposing defense can take away," Lenarz said. "I mean if they load up the box we can throw it a little bit this year. If they're dropping linebackers into coverage, we can run it."

Part of the Lumberjacks success comes from being well-balanced. Not only is the offense capable of puttng up big numbers, but the defense can be a little stingy. Last Friday they posted a shutout against Virginia.

"It definitely feels good, you know we can rely on our defense now," said Jeff Sarkela, senior linebacker. "It takes a little pressure off the offense."

They've faced some stiff competition so far, but one of Cloquet's biggest tests is waiting for them on Friday. Sea Range rival Proctor, a gritty team with the same record.

"They're big, physical and they run the ball really well so we know we have our work cut out for us, but that's why you want to be in these games at this time of the year. it's fun," Lenarz said.

And the Lumberjacks are ready for a battle.

"I'm sure they want this game every bit as much as we do, but it's our game," Lowther said.
