The Superior Police Department will provide 100 firearm safety kits to local residents through a nationwide firearms safety education program.

Project ChildSafe is funded by a U.S. Department of Justice grant and has distributed more than 35 million firearm safety kits throughout the country since 2003.

According to a department release, due to diminished funding the program can only provide 100 locks at this time in Superior. They will be distributed on a first come first serve basis.

The safety kits include a gun lock and are distributed at the Superior Police Department's front desk. The locks fit on most types of handguns, rifles, and shotguns.
